Kyle Salo, son of Bill and Marcia Salo and a senior at Red Creek High School, was selected as one of just two soccer
goalkeepers in central NY to work out with the MLS Rochester Rhinos professional team.
The team practices every Wednesday at the Total Sports Experience complex in Rochester.
Rhino head coach Laurie Calloway and Assistant Coach Willie Fitzpatrick chose the team. Calloway told the young men
that the reason they were picked was because, in the coaches' minds they had the talent and the ability to potentially move to the professional
level. Salo works individually with the Rhino starting keeper Scott Vallow.
Salo was the goalkeeper for the 2005 NY State Championship
Red Creek Soccer team and finished his high school career as a three-time All-League, three-time All-Greater Rochester, 2006 Section V Wayne County Player
of the year and member of the 2006 Coaches and Sportswriters All New York State team.
The soccer coaches at Clarkson University, Colgate University, Nazareth College and St. John Fisher College are also recruiting Salo, his father said. Salo has maintained a 90 or better grade point average
throughout high school.
"He wants to thank Coach Don Hartley, Coach Dave Gregg and the great teachers of Red Creek school district for his athletic and academic success," Bill Salo said.
