On the weekend of January 13th and 14th, the RCRage boy’s Varsity and Middle school teams traveled to Newark to play in the 6th Annual Newark Indoor Soccer Tournament. Both the boys varsity and the middle school teams came out as tournament champions! Numerous teams from around the area showed up to play, North Rose-Wolcott, Williamson, Geneva, PenYan and Marcus Whitman are just a few who came to play.
The Boy’s Varsity team coached by Dave Gregg was made up of one senior, JR Fisher, two Juniors, Anthony Roden and Colten Gregg, three Sophomores, Ryan Fisher, Cody Sherman, Colton Ginther and three freshmen, Nathaniel Gregg, Eli Vitale and Matt Treby.
The Boys varsity led off strong against Geneva in the first round and came out playing extremely well. They took it to Geneva the whole time winning 3-1 with Eli Vitale playing in the RCRage net. In the second round the boys met up with a strong Newark senior team and pulled out a 1-1 tie again with Vitale in the net. In the final preliminary match of the tournament the RCRage met up with a weaker Pen Yan team beating them easily and skated into the playoffs owning the 1st place seed.
In the playoffs the RCRage varsity boys met up Newark’s second varsity squad and defeated them 4-1 with Colton Ginther playing the net for the RCRage. This win put the RCRage boys into the finals where they again met up with the Newark seniors that they had tied with earlier in the day.
In the final match Colton Ginther owned the net for the RCRage and made a couple of incredible reflexive saves from point blank range. The game was hard fought and with minutes left Ryan Fisher received the ball on the outside at midfield and fired off a volley that the keeper did not even see go by it was hit so hard! That clinched the championship for the RCRage varsity boys!
The RCRage middle school team coached by Joe Gregg was made up of McKenzie Stanley, Mikayla Stanley, Trentin Reese, Nathan Drake, John Weigelt, Cameron Treby, Dylan Williams, Alex Viele, Jeff Hanford and Caleb Gregg. The kids played extremely well and came out on top in their first tournament of the year beating Marcus Whitman in a hard fought battle to take home the title!
